The Lake Tahoe Rim and Flume Trail should be on your bucket list if it isn’t already. Most of the trail isn’t extremely technical, but there are a few sections to keep on your toes. With incredible views, miles of single-track and back country scenery, you’ll get why this in on the IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association) EPIC trails list. Because it’s just that, and epic trail.

I filmed this in 2019 and confirmed the shuttles are still running this year, with limited capacity and precautions.

Park at Tunnel Creek Cafe Near Incline village. The shuttle is $18 dollars one way and you can reserve your spot online. https://flumetrailtahoe.com/trail-info/

Flume Trail Mountain Bikes have a couple of shuttles. We took the Tahoe Rim Trail shuttle that drops you off at Tahoe Meadows. If you’re not into shuttling, you could climb the eight miles on Mount Rose HWY, but I personally like to ride on dirt, not highways.

Our route ended up being 25 miles with 1700 feet of climbing. That might not sound like a lot of climbing, but most of the trial is at 8500 feet. For me, it felt like we climbed 300ft. Maybe that’s just me.

The ride around Marlette Lake is beautiful and easy on a hard packed fire road. We ran into a patch of Painted Lady butterflies. Do you remember the migration of butterflies last year? They were all over the trail. You can see them popping in and out of frame.

At the very end of the lake is actual start of the Flume trail, at this point we’ve already ridden 17+ miles and completed pretty much all the climbing. Let the fun begin!

More about IMBA Epic Trails: The Tahoe rim trail is one of the several routes that are designated as a mix of 80% single-track, at least 20 miles, and a technically and physically challenging backcountry experience. https://www.imba.com/ride/where-to-ride/imba-epics
